When you buy a home in San Diego, you want to know which school your children will attend. I am Shirin Rezania Ramos, and I help families find homes in places like Carmel Valley, San Diego 92130 or neighboring areas.
Sometimes, houses on the same street go to different schools. This can be confusing to others, but here is what I recommend before you buy a home:
1. Ask the school office – Do not just look at a map. Call the school office. Give them the house address. Ask them, “Which elementary, middle, and high school will my child go to?”
2. Think about the future – Your child will grow up. Make sure you like middle school and high school close by too, not just elementary school.
3. Ask if things will change – Sometimes schools get too full. The leaders might change which houses go to which school. Ask if this might happen soon.
4. Read the school reports – Every school has a “report card” that shows how they are doing. You can read these online to see if the school is good.
5. Check the extra costs – Some new homes have extra taxes (called Mello-Roos) to pay for the schools. I can help you check the tax bill so you know exactly how much money you will spend each month.
6. Practice the drive – Drive from the house to the school in the morning when parents are dropping off their kids. See if the traffic is okay for you.
7. Ask me about home prices – Homes near good schools usually cost more. I can show you how much other homes in that school area sold for.
I help families from all over the world move to San Diego. If you want to find a home in Carmel Valley (zip code 92130) or nearby areas, please call me at 858-345-0685.
