Rancho Serena is a small, private community of roughly 12 custom homes set along a single quiet cul-de-sac, Rancho Serena Road, near the intersection of El Camino Real and Loma Santa Fe/Highland Drive in Rancho Santa Fe, CA 92067. Just west of the Covenant and directly adjacent to the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve. Each residence was custom-designed and built individually, with the earliest homes dating to the 1970s and a handful of newer or substantially remodeled homes added in the decades since, resulting in a mix of exterior styles ranging from classic Mediterranean and ranch to more contemporary architecture. Homes in the community range from about 3,000-5,000 square feet, typically offering 3-5 bedrooms and 3-4.5 bathrooms, and sit on spacious lots from roughly half an acre up to 1.25 acres, many zoned for horses.

Residents share private use of an on-site equestrian facility (barn, stalls, turnout paddocks, and a riding arena), a tennis court, a swimming pool, and a volleyball court, plus direct access to the San Elijo Lagoon’s La Orilla and Stonebridge Trails, which wind through the reserve all the way to the beach — Del Mar is less than 4 miles away, and I-5 is roughly a 5-minute drive via El Camino Real. For everyday shopping and dining, Flower Hill Promenade is just a short drive away, with additional restaurants and shops nearby in Solana Beach and Del Mar. The community falls within the Solana Beach School District (Solana Vista Elementary) for elementary grades and the San Dieguito Union High School District beyond that, including Earl Warren Middle School and Torrey Pines High School, with lottery-based eligibility for Canyon Crest Academy and San Dieguito High Academy.

Rancho Serena is governed by a small, self-managed Rancho Serena HOA, with monthly dues that have generally run in the $600–$650 range to cover upkeep of the shared equestrian facility, pool, tennis court, common landscaping, and outdoor water costs for the community. Home prices start at around $3.2M, with larger or updated homes in the community valued as high as $5.5M–$6M.
